Writing by Brick Marketing in SEO

SEO is a long term process. You aren’t going to see results quickly, but within six months to a year of an SEO campaign you should start to see some improvement in your search ranking. What if you’ve been working at it for a year and don’t see any significant change? What if you just can’t seem to compete in your industry or niche, no matter how hard you try? When it comes to a stagnant SEO campaign, here are a few common culprits that can hinder success:

Your Content Isn’t Great
Content is the foundation of an SEO campaign. If your content is poorly written, too thin, or includes too many keywords or not enough keywords it won’t be trusted by the search engines (or your target audience). While content quality is most important, quantity matters too. In order to be successful, you need to publish content online in places other than your website on a regular basis.

Your Code Is Sloppy
To the search engines, sloppy code equals a sloppy website. Sometimes website owners aren’t even aware that their code is messy, since the website itself still looks OK. When in doubt, hire an expert to do an analysis.

You Aren’t Getting the Right Links
You know that links are important so you’ve been working on building them religiously. But are you building the right links? All links are not created equal. A link from a high authority industry related publication is worth much more than a link from a little known directory. Spend your link building time doing research and concentrate your efforts on sites that actually matter.

You Don’t Have a Blog
Any search engine optimization specialist will tell you that a great way to improve your SEO efforts is to blog on a regular basis. Blog posts rank in the search engines and provide additional opportunities to target keywords. Each new post ensures that the search engine spiders will be making their way back to your site frequently.

They Are Older
This is one that you really don’t have much control over. Your competition may be outranking you not because they have better content or a better link building strategy, but simply because they have an older site. Trust is huge in the search engines, and domain age is a big contributing factor to ranking.

While search engine ranking is important, you don’t want to be too focused on where you stand compared to where your competition stands. Instead, focus on improving your own traffic and conversions through online marketing.

I can see that how to market and advertise a business to consumers is changing at a rapid pace. Print advertisements like the yellow pages are playing a much smaller part in the overall marketing strategies that companies are using. More and more people are putting emphasis on web strategies. It can be a daunting task to determine what and how and who to hire to harness the power of the internet for your business. Everyone knows that you must have a website, but that is just the beginning. In addition, it is very important to have videos, blogs, newsletters, coupons, Facebook page, Linked-In, Twitter etc. Your customers are going to expect a strong web presence and that is a direct reflection on your company. Putting this all together in a cohesive plan is quite a bit of work. Most companies will hire an outside firm to help with some of this. It can be very time consuming to get started. Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short is one of the most important strategies that can be done to make sure the right people find your website. Many of the other strategies mentioned are actually a part of effective SEO. Pay Per Click or PPC for short is another strategy that works in conjunction with SEO to help provide a full solution for your web marketing and advertising. Even if you aren’t going to do this yourself or in house, it is important to learn some of the basics so when you do hire someone you will be able to insure that they are doing a good job for you.

There are many tools of the trade, but it may be time to take a look at some tools to make your business run smoother and more efficiently. With all the technological advances, there may be a useful and cost effective tool that you can use that will help your business prosper.

Tools, tools, tools… As a plumber you have many tools that you can use to do the job. Many of those tools have stayed the same. There are some innovations and new things, but many of the fundamental tools like a pipe wrench have not changed in a long time. The area we have seen accelerated change, however is anything that has an electronic circuit inside such as a computer or telephone. We have seen massive advances in this technology. The computer and internet has changed the way we shop, the way we learn, they way we communicate with others, etc. The main question today is, “have you adopted the latest technology in your business in these areas?”

Here are some of the tools that are available to provide increased customer service:
Remote Call forwarding from your office to your cell phone
Simultaneous ringing of office, cell, and any other phone you designate
Voicemail for customers to leave a message and never hear a busy signal
Voicemails automatically emailed to your cell phone
Message on hold that keeps customers from hanging up
GPS technology to track your trucks to conserve full, keep track of employees, and save on insurance premiums
email newsletter automatically to all your clients on a regular basis
Automatic birthday card sent to your customers so it arrives within a day of their birthday
Search Engine Optimized website so customers find you when they need you.

I listed some of the technologies that are cost effective and readily available. I am sure there are others out there, but I just wanted to provide some ideas that anyone could adopt to provide customer service that is over the top! You invest in your business by purchasing the right tools to do the work, so why not invest some money in the tools that can help you retain more clients, build better relationships and make your business run efficiently and smooth.

A new 1-800-Plumbing licensee in New Jersey has put together a great website. A company website is becomming the first impression that a consumer gets about your company. Is it the impression that you want them to get?

Websites have evolved so much in the past 10 or 15 years. It seems like it was not so long ago where people said, “you need a website” and so you got a website, put it up and that was it. Nowadays websites need constant maintenance, upgrades, audio clips, video clips, animation, blogs, links, etc. I spent some time this week looking for really outstanding plumbing websites and one of the newest 1-800-PLUMBING customers sent me the link to their new site: www.1800plumbingpros.com

I was very impressed with the layout of this site. It is clean and clear what they do, where they do it. They have a very nice audio/video presentation. The site not only gives a list of the services they perform, it includes many pictures and diagrams of many aspects of plumbing. The overall site is put together in a very professional manner. It is very easy for the consumer to navigate.

When is the last time that you updated your website? Regular maintenance of a website will insure that your customers are up to date with any changes in your company. With a lot of advertising shifting to the internet it has become much more important to maintain and upgrade your website on a regular basis. You know the saying “you don’t get a second chance for a first impression”. Well, to many of your customers, your company website is the first impression they get of your company. So make sure you make it a good one, by having a website that looks good and is easy to navigate.

Also, you should make sure that the content on your website is updated in regard to SEO (search engine optimization) 10 years ago not many businesses were very concerened with web marketing, but now it is getting to be a much larger and more significant part of advertising and marketing for a large majority of businesses. There is a major shift in progress and it is moving to on line advertising at an accelerating pace!
